THE MAN BEHIND THE LABEL

In 1997, Vega lost his best childhood friend to an act of street violence. It was the aggression, hood mentality and disrespect for anything less than legit, all themes that were present in much of the day’s new hip hop that the young Vega could most easily identify with.  The music became an avenue for him to voice the frustration and pain of losing his best childhood friend, the person who had encouraged him to write his first song.   Larry Lewis was taken by the streets over a decade ago, but he has never left Vega’s heart or mind. He is still to this day an anchor, an advisor, and a trusted friend whom Vega reaches out to when he wants to mull over career decisions or share his successes.

In addition to the legacy that Larry had left behind, Vega’s uncle, former DJ Prem Bey introduced him to the ins and outs of the music industry and the idiosyncrasies of establishing an independent record label as it applied to both the major and the indie sides of the coin. It was his uncle’s influence that can be credited with opening up the concept of making music his livelihood. Since that time, hip hop has grown into a culture and style of music that appeals and speaks to the masses.

It’s that transformation that has set the scene for King Vega to develop into an internationally known entertainer of the underground hip-hop industry. He has developed a dynamic stage presence that in combination with his contagious club hits gets club patrons moving on the dance floor.  After years of working to get his art out there and to be recognized as a mover and shaker in underground hip hop, he has signed his first distribution deal for his label VAMPIRE MUSIK GROUP with Grind House Inc. /Imperium Distribution.
